Pearl Polster Receives Contest-Winner Makeover
In last month’s Beachwood Buzz, an article was published about Sheila Kazdin, the 2015 winner of our Mother's Day Contest. Two second-place winners were also selected, Constance Strong, featured last month, and Pearl Polster, who had not yet gone for her makeover. Pearl was nominated by Lois Kaye. The two met when Pearl married Lois's late cousin, Sidney. Lois wrote of Pearl, “She was the ‘driver,’ always up for going out and doing.” She also wrote about how wonderfully Pearl cared for Sidney when he aged and became frail. One of Pearl's daughters, who has been battling cancer for quite some time, is now in hospice, at home with Pearl. Described by Lois as a fun-loving, outgoing, open and friendly person; and loving with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; Lois felt this makeover would be most deserved. After receiving a bouquet of roses from Gali's Florist, Lois enjoyed a manicure, pedicure Pearl Polster and Lavish Color and blow-dry/style at Lavish Salon stylist Alyssa Kay. Color Salon.

oya Kolkin, a Beachwood High School grad (class of '06), is now a grad student in NYU's Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service, pursuing her Master’s in Public Administration, in Public and Nonprofit Management and Policy, with a specialization in Finance. Last semester, she was paired with four classmates for a group project in her Regression and Introduction to Econometrics course. When the group met with Professor Leanna Stiefel to discuss their project, they introduced themselves, sharing some personal history and telling each other where they lived before moving to New York City. When Kolkin mentioned Cleveland, her professor asked where in Cleveland; and when Kolkin said Beachwood, Professor Stiefel smiled, for good reason. Soon thereafter, Professor Stiefel shared that she, too, was from Beachwood, had been part of the first graduating class of students that attended the high school for all four years (class of '63), and had also been a cheerleader for the Bison. “I guess it really is a small Professor Stiefel and Zoya Kolkin world after all,” Kolkin told us.
